French Bulldogs are known for their affectionate nature, stocky build, and variety in coat colors and patterns. Among the diverse coloration, Tan Point Studs stand out with a unique and appealing appearance. At Blufrenchibles, we have multiple studs available with tan points that can help produce that look in your litter.

What are Tan Point Studs?

Tan Point Studs refer to French Bulldogs with two copies of the Tan Points gene (At/At), resulting in distinctive tan markings on certain parts of their body, including above the eyes, cheeks, legs, and under the tail. This pattern is highly sought after and adds a beautiful contrast to the dog’s overall appearance.

Genetic Background of Tan Points

The genetics behind Tan Point Studs is fascinating. The Tan Point pattern is governed by the A locus, with the At allele being responsible for the specific tan markings. There are three possible genotypes for Tan Point Studs:

  • At/At: Two copies of the Tan Points gene produce the defined tan pattern.
  • At/a: One copy of the Tan Points gene may or may not show the markings.
  • a/a: No copies of the Tan Points gene mean no visible tan markings.

By carefully breeding two dogs with the At/At genetic profile, breeders can produce French Bulldogs with the desired tan point appearance.
